A beautiful example of 19th-century Victorian opaline milk glass, this antique dresser tray measures approximately 11" x 8½" and displays a particularly striking Ring of Fire iridescence in luminous light blue.
The opaque white, opaline glass takes on a remarkable translucent quality when held to natural light, revealing the colorful iridescent halo commonly referred to by collectors as the "Ring of Fire." On this example, the effect is especially vibrant in shades of pale blue, creating an ethereal contrast against the milky white glass.
Ring-of-Fire coloration is an important characteristic of earlier milk glass. Older milk glass was made using iridized salts that can produce a distinctive halo of blue, red, green, and other iridescent colors when the glass is viewed in strong natural light.
At approximately 11 inches long by 8½ inches wide, this is a generously sized dresser or vanity tray, suitable for displaying perfume bottles, jewelry, cosmetics, or other cherished objects. Its age, size, opaline character, and vibrant blue iridescence make it particularly appealing to collectors of Victorian glass, antique milk glass, opaline glass, and early vanity wares.
